The Common Council voted 10-0 on April 8 to approve a Parks Department resolution (file 25-0414) leasing the River Life Park concession building to CMA Wausau LLC for seasonal operation of soft-serve ice cream and quick-serve food items.
Dylan Allwin, who identified himself as the prospective operator and said he runs a family entertainment business called Sawmill Venture Park in Rothschild, told the council the operation would focus on fast food concessions and create additional summer hours for local staff. Allwin said the initial summer menu will feature soft-serve ice cream, shakes, and the same pizza recipe the operator uses at the Sawmill venue; he said other items could be added later.
Alder Martins noticed a drafting error in the lease's term: the packet listed an initial term ending 10/31/2025 but it should have read 10/31/2026. City staff acknowledged the drafting oversight and said the date will be corrected before signing. The council asked for the correction and then approved the lease. Alders also expressed support for additional recreational activity downtown.
The motion to approve the lease was moved and seconded (motion from Watson, second from Neil) and carried on a vote of 10-0.
Provenance: The operator introduced himself and answered alder questions during the parks item; the committee had recommended the lease prior to council action.
