Riverton Key Club reports district convention, 1,200 service hours and Diamond Club award

Franchesca Jones, Key Club advisor at Riverton, and three student officers described the club’s recent participation in the Rocky Mountain District convention (DECON) in Estes Park, Colorado.
"We had a great year. We had close to 60 things we helped with, over 1,200 service hours, and we only have about 30 in our club," said Franchesca Jones, who identified herself as the club advisor. Jones thanked the board for support and introduced student officers who summarized convention activities.
Student officers said DECON included candidate meet-and-greets, a service fair, delegate caucusing, workshops on public speaking and social media, a talent show and service projects such as blanket making for the Ronald McDonald House. Cassie Shields, newly elected president of the Riverton club, and Elsie Baugh, club secretary, described the event’s networking and leadership-training opportunities. Healy Johnson, newly elected district secretary, also addressed the board.
"As the primary reason for the convention is to elect the district board members for the upcoming year, we finished off Friday evening with a candidate meet and greet and a service fair," Baugh said. The students said the club earned the Diamond Club distinction for service for the second year in a row.
The board thanked the students and advisor for the report.
