Residents urge Kern County to review compliance with presidential executive order on elections and pause new election-system contracts

Charles Shen and other speakers urged the county to request database access from federal agencies to verify citizenship and voter registration; they cited federal statutes they said the county should use to maintain accurate voter rolls.
Glenn Clayton, Ron Barger and Dennis McLean outlined specific sections of the executive order and asked the board to inquire with elections officials about how they will comply. Public commenters asked the county to direct its counsel to review the order and to withhold signing any new election-system contracts until the county’s systems and procedures meet the standards described in the order.
No formal board action was taken during public comment; several speakers requested that the board and county counsel review the directive and report back to the public.
