Staff said the amendment updates local deadlines to conform to state law changes that moved the date of primary elections from the second Tuesday in June to the third Tuesday in June. Under the ordinance language presented, the deadline to file declarations and petitions for general elections in November shifts to the third Tuesday in June. For special elections to fill vacancies, the deadline changes to either at least 81 days before the election (up from 74 days) or, when the special election occurs at the second November election after a vacancy, to the third Tuesday in June.
The public hearing drew no speakers. County staff noted the public‑hearing procedures were authorized by resolution 2025‑17 (adopted 03/11/2025) and that notices ran in the March editions of the Nelson County Times. Following no public comment, a motion to adopt O2025‑02 was moved and seconded and the board took a roll call vote. The roll call recorded affirmative votes from the board members present and the ordinance will be effective upon adoption.
