The Madison Common Council voted to rename Madison Municipal Airport to Madison Regional Airport, approving Resolution 2025-4C and authorizing the airport manager to coordinate notifications and updates with the Federal Aviation Administration and Indiana Department of Transportation.
The move formalizes a name change the Madison Board of Aviation Commissioners recommended in March to reflect the airport’s expanding role beyond local general aviation to regional economic development and public-safety operations.
Council members praised the airport staff and aviation commissioners for planning and development that prompted the request. Cliff Robinson, a member of the Board of Aviation Commissioners, and Brent Spry, the airport’s general manager, attended the meeting and were acknowledged by the council.
The resolution directs the airport manager to notify the FAA and state Office of Aviation, update signage and public-facing materials, and coordinate with regional stakeholders; the change takes effect immediately upon adoption.
Ending: The council’s action is administrative and ceremonial but intended to support the airport’s marketing and alignment with regional services and economic development efforts.
