Rural Story County residents ask supervisors for help maintaining shared private road

She said the group wants to know "what our options are at trying to get the county to support us." Severson identified the street as "270 Sixth Street."
Another resident, Lynn Moore, said the total assessed value for properties in the neighborhood is $4,951,000 and that the group pays $64,334 in total property taxes. Moore said residents receive no road maintenance, snow removal or utility services and voiced concern about potential liability if residents perform road work without clear ownership or agreement.
The board member presiding at the meeting said they would follow up with the county engineer and obtain contact information for the residents. No formal action or vote was taken during public comment; the board noted that open meetings law limits immediate action on matters raised in public comment.
Residents asked for clarification about ownership and liability, and asked the county to consider at least helping with road maintenance because they pay county taxes but receive no corresponding services. Board staff indicated they would follow up with the residents after the meeting.
