"I'm asking for an exception," Gregory said, adding she was not seeking a policy change but an individualized decision because of her son's development and social ties to his peer group.
Gregory said she had first contacted school staff and the superintendent, who advised her to bring the request to the school committee. She cited other districts on Cape Cod with later cutoffs, including Sandwich, which uses a Sept. 13 cutoff, and asked the committee to consider an appeal in her son's case.
No committee action or vote on a waiver was recorded in the transcript. The superintendent previously said the committee is the appropriate forum for this request; any specific appeal process or outcome was not set at the meeting.
