The House of Representatives recessed until the conclusion of party caucuses after brief floor announcements, the presiding officer said.
Members heard a series of short announcements before the chamber moved into separate Democratic and Republican caucuses. Representative Gearhold invited lawmakers to the Iowa Bicycle Coalition’s annual Bike Day at the Capitol, and Representative Franklin introduced a visiting EF Study Abroad group of students and chaperones.
Representative Gearhold told the chamber the Iowa Bicycle Coalition would offer treats, conversation and coffee from 2:30 to 4 p.m. on the Capitol grounds. Representative Franklin asked colleagues to welcome a group of 20 students and eight chaperones from across Iowa, naming Hamilton, Franklin, Grundy, Hardin, Webster, Dallas, Polk and Warren counties among their home communities.
On the floor, Representative Khan announced that Democrats would caucus at 8:50 a.m. in Room 19. A member identified as the representative from Harrison announced that Republicans would caucus at 8:45 a.m. in the Scribe Court chamber.
With no further business raised, the presiding officer called for a voice vote on a motion to recess until the conclusion of the respective caucuses; the presiding officer said, “The ayes do have it,” and recessed the House.
