The Atoka City Council approved two purchases for the police department: two 2025 Dodge Durangos from John Vance Motors Inc. for a combined $92,350 at state contract pricing, and replacement body armor from Gales for $24,937.
City staff told the council the vehicle purchase was moved forward because the funds were available now and the department could lock in current pricing rather than waiting for next year’s budget; delivery was estimated at about 12 weeks. The council approved the purchase by roll call.
Staff said the body armor purchase is on a five-year replacement cycle. The city routinely submits the body armor invoice for a grant reimbursement that covers about 50% of the cost, reducing the city’s net outlay. The council approved that purchase by roll call as well.
Both items were presented as routine budgeted expenditures. Council members described the purchases as keeping officers equipped with current gear and noted that taking advantage of present pricing for vehicles avoided expected increases.
Motions to approve both purchases were seconded and passed unanimously in roll-call votes recorded in the meeting minutes.
