Committee schedules Solarize outreach, mural work party, wildfire-prep talk and a radio-club fire-logs meeting

Committee members reviewed a slate of upcoming public events and engagement activities and discussed how the Climate Action Committee will support them.

Solarize Kenmore: Tracy (committee member) explained Kenmore is running a group-buying solar program in April with a repeat event on May 21. Lake Forest Park residents can participate; Kenmore offers an additional municipal rebate Kenmore residents receive that Lake Forest Park residents do not.

Mural and Climate Hub: members discussed a proposed mural for the climate hub. Two artists (one returning from Costa Rica) will project and trace a design on a primed wall; Urban Art Works will supply insurance, tarps, paint and scaffolding. The group discussed a public painting schedule and suggested adding interactive elements ("where's the snail" features) for children. Urban Art Works was described as handling volunteer scheduling and post-paint touch-ups.

Arbor Day and Garden Tour: the committee will publicize the Arbor Day tree walk and support the Lake Forest Park garden tour and farmers market with staffing or tabling where possible. Members discussed timing conflicts and volunteer availability, and suggested mid-September for one garden-tour date to avoid busy weekends.

Wildfire preparedness event: the committee confirmed a May 3 event titled "Get Ready for Fire Season," with a planned panel including someone from local emergency operations, a fire-department representative and a pulmonologist to speak on smoke impacts. Members sought volunteers to moderate that event.

NEMCO / radio-club fire logs meeting: Tracy said NEMCO and the Shoreline Amateur Radio auxiliary will meet on April 12 at 9:00 a.m. at the Shoreline Fire Station on Highway 99; the meeting will cover home-resilience measures for wildfire risk and will run at least until noon.

Green Fair debrief and outreach: members said attendance at the recent Green Fair felt lower than in past years; however, Cascadia Consulting Group staff present at the fair captured additional survey responses. The committee discussed using give-aways or printed materials to attract attendees to tables in future events.

Community-science portal and climate hub touchscreen: members discussed a proposal to partner with AGU/Thrive/Earth Exchange to create a map/dashboard of local community-science projects and air-quality data. They also discussed acquiring an $8,000 touchscreen kiosk to display the hub's material and link to the comprehensive-plan climate actions.

Volunteer recruitment and tabling: members reviewed an existing volunteer list and considered sending an outreach message inviting people to help at events (tree walk, market, mural painting). Suggestions included low-cost outreach items like stickers or shirts that say, "Ask me about the Climate Action Committee."
