Ella Paglia, a local teacher and Pingree Grove resident, told the Board of Trustees she plans to operate a free, summer-only mobile library out of her Volkswagen bus to serve children and families who lack convenient access to the nearest library.
“Imagine a little bus filled with books of all kinds, children's stories, young adult novels, and great reads for adults,” Paglia told the trustees, describing a simple check-out system using a phone number as a library card and a collection built largely from personal books and donor contributions. She said she conducted a neighborhood poll in which 77 of 102 respondents said they would use the service.
Paglia asked the board for permission to use the community center parking lot a few days per week during the summer—late May or early June was her target—to serve as a base for the mobile library and to coordinate summer reading events with the community center coordinator, who she said was supportive. She emphasized the program would be seasonal: “I wanna emphasize that this will be a summer only program designed to enrich our community during the warmer months.”
Trustees asked whether she had firm times and Paglia said scheduling was still being organized; she asked for the board’s permission before finalizing a schedule and event plans. No formal vote was taken at the meeting; trustees expressed support and asked the presenter to return with details if needed.
