The district described Buckey’s background — 12 years as principal at Nantucket High School, four years at Littleton High School and three years as superintendent of Marblehead Public Schools — and said his visibility and involvement during the 2024–25 school year have contributed to district initiatives such as the portrait of a learner.
The proposed timeline calls for community input beginning in November 2025, formation of a search committee, advertising in December and January, interviews in January and February, and an appointment in spring 2026 to permit onboarding before the 2026–27 school year. The committee said the extension seeks continuity while central office leadership settles into recent appointments.
Committee members said Buckey could choose to be a candidate in the permanent search; no formal vote to extend him was recorded at the April 7 meeting.
