Board authorizes up-to-$45,000 contract with Clark Dietz for treatment-plant HVAC oversight

The Board of Public Works and Capital Assets on April 8 authorized the utility engineer to enter into a professional service agreement with Clark Dietz not to exceed $45,000 to provide shop-drawing review and technical inspection for an HVAC project at the municipal treatment plant.
Utility staff said Clark Dietz performed the design work and the new contract will cover construction-phase engineering tasks including review of contractor shop drawings and onsite technical inspection. "This contract is to this engineering consulting firm is specific to our HVAC project at the treatment plant. We've gone through the design, we've gone through the bidding process. Now we need to hire them to do job drawing reviews and the technical inspection of that project," the utility engineer said.
Staff told the board that the Public Service Commission (PSC) previously granted construction authorization at a lower amount than the bids returned. The project was rebid; the lowest bid remains above the PSC authorization amount, so staff said they will seek reauthorization from the PSC this summer. The engineer said construction will not start within the next year but that contract work with Clark Dietz is expected to begin in the summer.
Board member Marshall moved to authorize the agreement; the roll call recorded Marshall and Grzegalski voting yes and the motion passed.
The board did not provide a construction start date or identify the contractor selected from the bid process during the meeting.
