Brownsville proclaims Feb. 16–22, 2025, National Engineers Week

The Brownsville City Commission proclaimed Feb. 16–22, 2025, as National Engineers Week in the city.
Yolanda Dela Torre, assistant city engineer for the City of Brownsville and president of the local chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers, spoke during the proclamation presentation. She thanked the commission for the recognition and listed participating organizations: the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Texas Society of Professional Engineers, the South Texas Engineering Foundation, the City of Brownsville Engineering Division and Brownsville Public Utilities Board divisions for water, wastewater and electrical.
Dela Torre outlined planned events for the week, including a golf tournament, a valleywide proclamation breakfast at the A&M campus in McAllen, a UTRGV lunch-and-learn, alumni mixers and a gala. She said the Rio Grande Valley’s weeklong events are now in their third year and that last year organizers awarded almost 50 scholarships to students pursuing engineering degrees in the Valley.
The proclamation text read that the commission "by virtue of the authority vested by the charter of said city, do hereby proclaim February 16 through 02/22/2025, as National Engineers Week in the City Of Brownsville" and encouraged residents to recognize engineers’ contributions.
No formal action was required beyond the proclamation; Dela Torre and representatives from local societies were recognized at the dais.
