College Place — The commission received a multi-event update from staff outlining the city’s 2025 community events calendar, including a Block Party, a seasonal market, a movies-in-the-park series, Freedom Fest with fireworks and several fall and winter events.
Staff said the Block Party is scheduled for May 18 from 1 to 6 p.m., using the same four blocks from Fourth Street to Whitman. A Market in the Park will start May 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the renovated Lions Park; staff said a trout stocking of the pond is planned the same day and that Hop Thief will run a beer-and-wine garden. Movies at the Park will run every third Saturday at sundown beginning June 21 at Lions Park; films listed included titles on June 21, July 12, Aug. 2, Aug. 23 and Sept. 13 in the sequence provided by staff.
Staff previewed Freedom Fest for June 29 from 6 to 10 p.m. at College Place High School with live music, food vendors and a kids’ zone; the fireworks display, staff said, will be funded largely by REA. An "Artful Celebration" event is being planned with Co Walla Walla and Carnegie Picture Labs and has been moved to Oct. 11 to allow additional coordination. Staff also listed a trunk-or-treat event Oct. 31 and a Winterfest in December featuring a tree lighting, Santa and a lighted parade. Staff said new street banners for College Avenue and an updated events section on the city website are forthcoming.
Why this matters: staff’s schedule and vendor/partner details help residents and local organizations plan participation and allow the city to coordinate permits, public safety coverage and vendor logistics.
Ending: Staff framed the update as informational; no formal actions were taken.
