Auburn council approves SEPA code update, zoning corrections, $20,000 ICAC grant and a planning commission appointment

Ordinance 6972 updates Auburn City Code chapter 16.06 to adopt new thresholds and categorical exemptions under the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA), a change the council said will streamline permitting for minor new construction and for multifamily and middle‑housing developments. Council member Tracy Taylor moved the ordinance; Council member Trent Manuel seconded. The ordinance passed on a voice vote.
Ordinance 6976 amended the city’s comprehensive zoning map to correct the zoning of six privately owned parcels that had been misidentified as P‑1 (Public Use). Council member Tracy Taylor moved the ordinance; Council member Baldwin seconded. The measure passed on a voice vote.
The council also adopted Resolution 58‑20 accepting a $20,000 grant awarded through the Seattle Police Department as lead agency for the Washington State Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. Deputy Mayor Raikes moved the resolution and noted the Auburn Police Department is a member of the state task force; Council member Ammer seconded. The council approved the acceptance of the funds, which are part of a federal grant administered through the state task force.
Earlier in the meeting the council voted unanimously to appoint Kirk Hiller to the Planning Commission for a three‑year term expiring Dec. 31, 2027. Deputy Mayor Raikes moved the appointment and Council member Clinton Taylor seconded. The council welcomed Hiller, who was present in the audience, and the motion passed without dissent.
Each measure was enacted as part of the evening’s regular business and was approved by voice vote. The actions are now reflected in city records and will be implemented by the appropriate departments: Community Development for the code changes, Finance and Police for the grant, and the City Clerk for the Planning Commission appointment.
