The Averill Park Central School District Board of Education on April 7 adopted a minor Title IX policy update, approved revisions to the 2024–25 school calendar and authorized initiation of an appeal in an impartial hearing matter, IHRS case number 585128.
The policy changes were presented as an update provided by the district's compliance reviewer and described as aligning district policy with current Title IX regulations. A board member moved to waive a second reading and adopt policy 0111 as written; the motion passed by unanimous voice vote.
The board also approved a revised 2024–25 school calendar that formalizes emergency days as make-up dates and adds half-days in mid-June to provide additional time at the elementary level while capital work is underway. Board members flagged a minor typographical calendar entry (April 20/21) for correction.
Separately, the board authorized the district to initiate an appeal of an impartial hearing officer's decision in IHRS case number 585128. The resolution to pursue the appeal was moved, seconded and approved by unanimous voice vote.
Trustees also acknowledged donations and several upcoming retirements; the board extended thanks to donors and retiring employees during the consent and recognition portion of the meeting.
