District reports progress on aquatic center, Little Powder Elementary and multiple facility projects

The board received an update on major facility projects across the district, including the aquatic center, Little Powder Elementary, a turf project at Wright Junior-Senior High, a transportation replacement facility design process, and the Campbell County High School (CCHS) planning effort.

District staff reported that pool roof work and installation of finishes are underway at the aquatic center, with some weather- and material-related delays; staff said they currently anticipate project completion in mid to late May. Little Powder Elementary’s main building steel erection is complete and the project is ahead of schedule, with a target occupancy after the December construction window and students starting on January 26 in the planned timeline.

Wright Junior-Senior High’s turf replacement and irrigation project has a May 24 mobilization date and an anticipated July 1 completion if weather cooperates. Transportation staff and design teams conducted a design charrette and site visits to regional facilities; schematic designs are expected in the next 30 days. For Campbell County High School, the district held a pre-proposal meeting with 14 design firms and plans to shortlist and interview teams in March and bring a recommendation to the board in mid-March, pending proposals due Feb. 20.

Staff noted long lead times for equipment and encouraged early planning; they also said state funding bills relevant to facilities (one cited as House Bill 259) are advancing in the legislature. Trustees asked clarifying questions about timelines and completion windows and indicated interest in on-site tours when work nears substantial completion.

The facilities report focused on construction sequencing and next steps rather than immediate board action.
