Claycomb described district and school decisions after COVID that shaped staffing and supports, including use of Title I funds to add a reading recovery position for early grades, and an ongoing emphasis on interventions and PLC work. He cited free‑and‑reduced rates rising from 52% to 58% this year and characterized the increase as “an opportunity” for school services rather than solely a challenge.
“That's where you see the the 1 certified staff member dip down from last year,” Claycomb said when explaining staffing shifts related to Title I allocations. He reported overall achievement in the 60–62% range under the district’s Every Student Succeeds Act measures and said some grade‑level declines present opportunities for PLC teams to examine instruction and respond.
Claycomb emphasized school culture and climate as a core strength: targeted work on PBIS, a Hope Squad, and student well‑being efforts. He thanked staff and reflected on his time as principal; several trustees offered praise and expressed regret at his upcoming retirement.
