Commissioners approve budget amendments, consent agenda and set household hazardous waste event; closed session scheduled

At the March meeting the Alexander County Board of Commissioners approved several administrative measures and announcements.
Budget ordinance amendments 32, 33 and 34 were approved in a single collective vote. The amendments include: increasing the 9‑1‑1 communications budget with grant funds from the Catawba Valley Community Foundation to purchase a utility terrain vehicle and related equipment and FEMA grant funds for hurricane response; increasing health department and library budgets for federal and ARPA grant receipts and allocating additional rental assistance funding for DSS; and transferring $365,000 from the County Water and Sewer Fund to the Bowman Court Sewer Pump Station Project Fund to cover engineering and construction contingency because grant funding is less than estimated project cost.
The board approved the consent agenda and earlier adopted the meeting agenda as presented; both votes carried unanimously. Ben Walsall announced the biennial household hazardous waste and document destruction day will be held Saturday, May 3, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Alexander County Administration Building parking lot; the free service is for county residents only (farmers excepted for certain agricultural pesticides).
Near the end of the meeting the board voted unanimously to enter closed session under North Carolina General Statute 143‑318.11(3) and (6) to consult with the county attorney and to discuss personnel/complaint matters. County Attorney Ben Faulconberry said he did not anticipate any action following closed session.
No individual dollar amounts were adopted for line items beyond those included in the budget amendments; commissioners approved the package by voice votes.
