Senate education committee sends two Colorado State University Board nominees to full Senate unanimously

The Colorado Senate Education Committee voted unanimously to advance the reappointment of John Fisher and the appointment of Andy Worth to the Colorado State University System Board of Governors, moving both nominations to the full Senate with a favorable recommendation.

Tony Frank, chancellor of the Colorado State University System, introduced the nominations and asked the committee to consider both candidates. "Both of these individuals will, in my opinion, represent you and the citizens of Colorado effectively on the CSU system board of governors," Frank said.

John Fisher, who currently serves as chair of the Board of Governors and is nominated for reappointment, described his long involvement in education and board service and said mental health is a top priority. "I believe that it's 1 of the most important things we can tackle," Fisher told the committee, citing research that he said shows roughly 37 percent of students nationally are affected by mental health issues.

Andy Worth, nominated for appointment and an alumnus of Colorado State University's Warner College of Natural Resources, said he was honored to be considered and described long-term ties to Colorado and CSU. "It would be an incredible honor," Worth said of the prospect of serving on the board.

Senator Marchman moved to send both nominations to the full Senate with a favorable recommendation. The committee called the roll and recorded unanimous support; the clerk reported ayes from the senators present. The chair then placed the nominations on the consent calendar for the full Senate.

The committee's action does not itself install the nominees; both nominations will be considered by the full Senate on the consent calendar as the next step in the confirmation process.
