Town staff told the council the funds originate from the 2023 Appropriations Act and will be applied toward construction of a water main along NC Highway 150 from the Forsyth County line to a new elevated water tank behind Town Hall. The town manager noted that the $4,432,400 figure represents an allocation of roughly $4.5 million less an administrative fee retained by the State.
Council heard that the elevated tank itself will be funded separately, through American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds relayed through Guilford County. Staff said design work is complete and construction is expected to begin shortly; the resolution formalizes the town’s acceptance of the state appropriation and confirms the town will use the funds per the approved scope.
Council moved, seconded and approved the resolution by a voice vote.
