The Muscatine County Board of Supervisors approved two facilities-related contract actions Monday: an amendment to the design contract for the county’s Engineering & Zoning building and a change order to address water intrusion at the county jail.
County Development Director Eric Furnace presented an amended contract for Horizon Architecture (referred to in packet materials as the project architect) seeking an additional $55,844.80 to cover increased design and engineering services tied to a larger-than-anticipated building program. Eric said the expansion of the building’s scope was discussed during budgeting and that the additional design work had been anticipated and budgeted during earlier sessions. A motion to authorize the chair to sign the contract adjustment was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Eric also described a separate, smaller change order related to an imminent panel-replacement project on the jail roof. Heavy rains had allowed water to enter through fixed louvers on the jail’s mechanical penthouse; the county will have Giese Roofing fabricate and install a series of “knock down” hoods over the louvers as a subcontract under the general contractor’s panel project. Eric said the work will be billed as a change order of $12,390 with no additional overhead and profit passed through the general contractor. The board moved, seconded and approved the change order.
Eric and project representatives said the Horizon Architecture amendment and the jail hood work were included in existing project budgets and would be administered through the approved contracting process. The chair signed authorization to proceed.
