Todd Hammond, executive director of technology, told the board on March 3 that the district plans to purchase an audio intercom system for the central office to provide reliable building‑wide emergency messaging.
Hammond said the proposed system is the Audio Enhancement Epic intercom and that it integrates with the district’s Syntegix Scribe alert system. He provided a firm cost of $94,342.70 and said funding would come from “East Bloss” as noted in the staff report.
“Currently, the central office doesn't have a reliable method to message visitors and staff throughout the building in the event of an emergency situation,” Hammond said. He told the board the system would address that vulnerability and is intended to be the final safety‑related upgrade for the central office building.
Board members asked practical questions. Board member Mister Jackson said wayfinding and the building layout make audible messaging important for visitors and staff who do not know the building’s exits.
The purchase will be presented for formal approval at the board’s March 17 meeting; no purchase was authorized on March 3.
