MADISON, Fla. — At the April 7 Madison County District School Board meeting, resident Eddie Ritchie used the public-comment period to criticize how the district notified Melinda Ritchie that her contract would not be renewed for the 2025–26 school year.
Ritchie told the board the district—s written notice — three short sentences delivered by a secretary rather than in person — was disrespectful after 18 years of service. "Eighteen years of selfless service to a district with three heartless sentences and a letter," he said. He called for a board policy that would require face-to-face meetings with employees before nonrenewal notices are issued.
Ritchie described Melinda Ritchie—s work as coordinator for mental health and student services and said colleagues across the district and state had expressed surprise and concern. "The lack of integrity and respect in this situation was nauseating," he told the board. He said Melinda had done director-level work while being paid at a coordinator level and that colleagues had offered help and job opportunities.
The public comment concluded without board action; board members later thanked Melinda Ritchie for her service and recognized the concerns raised by the speaker. No personnel decision was reversed at the meeting.
