Commission approves letter of support for Volunteer Energy Corp. broadband grant application

The Bradley County Commission unanimously approved a letter of support for Volunteer Energy Corporation (VEC) to strengthen its application for broadband funding through the federal/state broadband opportunity (BEAD) program.
Commissioner Blake told the commission VEC plans to apply for three project areas covering the entire county to reach all unserved and underserved households not already included in another award. "These 3 projects area these project areas cover the entire county and include all unserved and underserved households that are not already included in another award," Blake said during his remarks. He moved to approve a county letter of support; Commissioner Goins seconded. The motion passed on roll call, 14-0.
Commissioner Blake added that VEC representatives are already taking subscriptions for high-speed service in parts of the Sixth District, and he encouraged county officials to support the company's application.
Action taken: the commission approved the letter of support by voice vote and recorded roll-call approval of 14 in favor, none opposed. The endorsement will be included with VEC's grant application to the broadband funding authority.
