Rutherford County human resources staff presented a February snapshot to the Steering Committee that summarized hiring, accommodations and personnel activity.
HR reported seven ADA activities (primarily for hearing-impaired employees), 25 personnel changes including promotions and transfers, and 21 benefits-related activities. The office listed 261 onboarding activities for new hires and 19 separations (resignations or other separations). The HR presenter reported 1,496 recruitment activities during the snapshot period; 476 were applications received, 168 interviews were conducted and 38 job postings were active at the snapshot date.
The presenter described the scope of family and medical leave coverage, citing examples: "For an employee, it could be for a birth of a child, an adoption of a child. They could have a serious health condition such as, you know, cancer or renal failure," and added that military leave rules differ when deployment is involved. The HR office also noted ongoing special projects including budget preparation and salary reviews, and continued use of surveys and community outreach to support recruitment and retention.
Committee members asked clarifying questions about vacancies in the property assessor's office and about cumulative vacancy metrics; the HR presenter cautioned when offering guesses and labeled some explanations as "an educated guess."
