The Flossmoor SD 161 Board of Education recognized students selected for the Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA) All-State choirs during the meeting's recognition segment.
District music staff described the All-State experience as an honor choir opportunity in Peoria that brings together high-achieving students from across Illinois for intensive rehearsals and a final performance at the Peoria Civic Center. Teachers who read names at the meeting thanked the district and families for supporting music programs.
Named students and teachers included Jordan Haines and Eden Perry (Flossmoor Hills), Valerie Posco (music teacher, Western Avenue School) who listed Olivia Crawford Jones, Keelan Sikkema, Charlie Smith and Naomi Zurich, and Abby Pedego (Serena Hills music teacher) who read names for Heather Hill: Madison Peden, Akari Turner, Danny Martinez and Ernest Bellini. The board and superintendent congratulated the students.
The board did not take action on the recognition item; it was ceremonial. Teachers said the All-State experience gives students exposure to advanced ensemble work and performance opportunities and can support future pursuits in music.
