Commission set to post ambulance-service RFP after 911 board update

Commissioner Billingsley told the Chilton County Commission the updated ambulance service request-for-proposal (RFP) prepared by the county 911 board is ready to be posted and that he will make a motion to post it at the next meeting.
"It's been a lot of things on median, and I'll probably repeat this tomorrow night too ... But it is completed and it is ready to be sent out immediately," Commissioner Billingsley said, adding that ambulance companies typically have 30 days to return proposals and that responses will be submitted as sealed bids for later opening and review by the commission.
Billingsley, who said he has worked on the ambulance issue before his election, described the process as driven by federal regulations and lengthy preparation. Other commissioners praised the 911 board’s work and Billingsley’s persistence, saying the posting is intended to produce proposals that can be evaluated to bring ambulance service into the county.
No award or contract was made at the meeting; Billingsley said he will make a formal motion at the commission’s next meeting to post the RFP.
The commission did not record a vote on the RFP at this session; commissioners discussed next-steps and emphasized that award decisions will follow sealed-bid openings and a formal review process.
