Senate committee backs two CSU Board of Governors nominees, praises student mental health work

The Colorado Senate Education Committee on Oct. 12 unanimously recommended the appointment of Andy Worth and the reappointment of John Fisher to the Colorado State University System Board of Governors, sending both nominations to the full Senate with a favorable recommendation.
The recommendation came after testimony from Tony Frank, chancellor of the Colorado State University System, who introduced the nominees and described the governor’s appointments as representation of Colorado citizens and stewards of the university system’s investments. Frank said he “fully support[s] Governor Polis’s nominations of John Fisher and Andy Worth.”
The nominations matter because the board oversees CSU’s three campuses and serves alumni, students, faculty and other constituencies on matters including institutional investment and campus policy. John Fisher, nominated for reappointment and currently chair of the Board of Governors, told the committee he has served on multiple education boards and highlighted student mental health as a priority. “I don't know that there's much that we could do that's more important than dealing with mental health when 37 percent of our students are affected by it,” Fisher said.
Andy Worth, nominated for appointment, said serving on the CSU board would be “an incredible honor.” Worth described long ties to Colorado and to CSU, including guest lecturing and alumni status in the Warner College of Natural Resources. He noted a varied career across the ski industry, government interaction and nonprofit work, including founding an organization focused on veterans’ mental health.
Committee Chair Senator Marchman moved the favorable recommendation. The committee called the roll and recorded a unanimous committee vote to send the nominations to the full Senate.
No committee amendments or conditions were attached. The nominations now proceed to the full Senate for confirmation.
The committee also placed the nominations on the consent calendar for rapid consideration by the full Senate, per the committee’s practice.
Both nominees answered follow-up questions from members about their backgrounds and board experience before the committee voted.
