Committee adopts amendment and advances licensing cleanup bill for labor and licensing programs

Department counsel described the measure as a collection of small, positive changes: eliminating seldom-used license classes (converting class C to class B in mechanical licensing), improving apprentice procedures, streamlining renewal cycles to a one-year electronic system and removing obsolete grandfather clauses. The department said they had consulted industry stakeholders and several legislators who work in related trades had signed on.
Committee members asked questions about the annual renewal policy and whether it increased burdens on licensees; the department said its electronic licensing platform makes annual renewal routine and improves administrative efficiency. After testimony the committee passed the bill as amended.
