Douglas County proclaims April 2025 as National County Government Month; resident objects

The resolution encourages county officials, employees, schools and residents to learn more about county responsibilities and services.
During public comment, Larry Storrer of 5015 Lafayette Avenue, Omaha, said he opposed the resolution because, he said, counties are primarily local institutions and should not be aligning officially with the National Association of Counties. Storrer urged the board to “scrap the resolution” and criticized counties’ national-level involvement; his remarks were recorded on the public record but did not change the board’s action.
A motion to adopt the resolution was made by Commissioner Ferguson and seconded by Commissioner Rogers; the board approved the proclamation by a 7-0 voice vote.
