A Medina resident told the Bellevue City Council on April 1 that a city water‑main break near his house caused extensive damage, temporary displacement and large out‑of‑pocket expenses, and he asked the council and mayor to direct staff to negotiate a fair settlement.
Dan Becker said a water main rupture about 18 months earlier caused substantial flooding that damaged his house, vehicles and personal property and forced his family to live elsewhere. He said the city told him it would accept responsibility, but the settlement offer he received shortly before the meeting covered only a fraction of his costs. "They offered us 20 cents on the dollar with no explanation," Becker said in remarks recorded in the transcript.
Becker asked the council and mayor to direct staff to work in good faith to reach a reasonable settlement consistent with other similar incidents across the city. Mayor Robinson said the city manager would follow up directly with Mr. Becker,
The council did not take formal action during the public‑comment period. City staff later said the city manager would reach out to Becker to pursue the matter.
