ConVal High School presents draft 2025–26 program of studies; board approves working draft and new book awards

High school staff presented the Contoocook Valley regional high school’s draft 2025–26 Program of Studies at the Jan. 20 school board meeting; the board approved the working draft and took action on a series of related items.
Heather McKillip presented the working draft, noting it will be finalized in July and that some items will change with course selection and enrollment. Changes highlighted included the district’s newly required 28‑question civics competency assessment for graduation (per the New Hampshire Department of Education), new transcript withdrawal codes to distinguish withdrawals while passing (WP) and withdrawing while failing (WF), added English-language-learner support language, NCAA‑eligibility course notation and an update to AP studio art that staff said last existed in the 2018–19 program of studies.
McKillip told the board the AP exam fee for 2025 is $99 per exam and that financial‑hardship waivers are available for $37; staff said the district assists students in need. The presenter said 15 students had expressed interest in AP courses this year and that administrators would submit existing courses for NCAA approval prior to July.
The board moved to approve the working draft; the motion was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. The board also approved a set of new book awards and accepted a $500 donation to South Meadow School from Jennifer and Scott Begley to provide financial assistance for families who cannot afford an American Heritage Tour.
Administrators described awards nomination procedures: the counseling team reviews award criteria and will reach out to families for permission before naming nominees for newly added awards.
