"Center Stage Band and Show Choir is from Wausau, Wisconsin. ... it's a show choir whose volunteer vocal and instrumental performers, present 3 performances of a single major scripted and and choreographed show," said Olaf Lind, the first reader. Reviewers observed the group focuses resources on a single annual production while also performing at community events.
Michael Ranch, the second reader, told the panel the organization operates on an "exceptionally small" average revenue of about $45,000 and has no paid staff. He praised the group's artistic quality as shown in a submitted video sample and noted strong community support and sponsorship efforts. "The cost barrier has been removed with the free performances," he said, noting free public access as a strength.
Panelists requested more clarity on long-range goals: while short-term, production-focused planning (including a November budget review for a September show) appears robust, reviewers asked whether the organization had a longer-term, visionary plan and suggested more measurable impact statements. Several reviewers also asked for demographic information about company membership and audience diversity.
After approximately 10 minutes of discussion, panelists submitted scores. Staff will aggregate the panel's scores and apply the board's award formula before forwarding recommendations to the full Arts Board.
