Panelists commended Woodland Pattern in Milwaukee for long-standing programming, diverse audiences and improved digital access, while requesting clearer strategic-planning documentation and more explicit use of evaluation in program changes.
"One of the things that I do love about Woodland, is the diversity in the area," said Aliyah Zama, the first reader, noting Woodland Pattern's reach across race, age and gender identities and its programming in poetry, visual arts, film and youth activities. "Each year, they present about 400 programs and activities for the community," she said.
Reviewers highlighted accessibility gains including livestreaming and closed captioning, and the group's longevity (founded in 1979) as program strengths. At the same time, readers asked for clearer explanations of partner relationships (for example, unspecified acronyms and relationships referenced in the application), and for stronger evidence of how evaluation has changed programming. Michael Ranch said he wanted organizations to "show how [evaluation] has been used to modify programs or operations."
Panelists also asked for clarity on Woodland Pattern's staffing model; several noted the application referenced two executive directors but did not explain decisionmaking or roles tied to that structure. Reviewers suggested Woodland Pattern expand a marketing plan beyond a newsletter/event listing and add specific, measurable evidence of impact (surveys, participant quotes or metrics) to strengthen future applications.
After discussion, panelists submitted scores for Woodland Pattern for staff aggregation.
