County staff present regional multi-hazard mitigation plan; commission to consider adoption next week

Pozel said the plan is a five-year update and that 13 municipalities and school districts participated in the drafting process. The draft has been posted on the regional website; staff did not print the full document because it runs more than 1,000 pages, but commissioners were given a link and asked to submit comments. Pozel and Captain Agderian said county emergency management and municipal partners were involved in a strategic planning team that aggregated local input.
Commissioners asked whether local officials and the sheriff’s office had adequate opportunity to weigh in. Captain Agderian said Emergency Management staff (Anne Pozel and her assistant, Grace Windinger) worked with Mark (regional coordinator) throughout the process and that the sheriff’s office had the opportunity to provide input. Commissioner Johnson said he would trust the emergency management staff’s judgment if they were satisfied.
Staff said their intent is to place the draft on next week’s regular agenda — likely on the consent agenda unless commissioners request additional review — so Clay County can sign and forward the plan to the regional coordinator (Mark) and to state and federal authorities for review and approval.
