Platte County commissioners approved several Public Works procurement actions Tuesday, including a memorandum to purchase two Kenworth dump trucks for $425,880, a single-bid award for microsurfacing work and approval of roughly 70 annual vendor contracts.
Bob Heim, director of Public Works, said two of the county’s larger dump trucks have topped 100,000 miles and staff are recommending purchase through a cooperative Sourcewell contract (bid 032824-KTC) offered by MHC Kenworth. "They will be 2 new 2026 T480 dump trucks that have a 14 foot bed and they will come with an extended 5 year warranty," Heim said. Staff reported funds have been certified by the county auditor and estimated delivery in December.
On road surfacing, Heim said the county received one bid for the microsurfacing portion of the 2025 road resurfacing project and is recommending award to Vance Brothers; the commission voted to approve the bid award. Heim also brought an order approving annual bid contracts (categories 6 through 22) to furnish supplies to Public Works: staff said roughly 70 vendors were selected and requested commission sign-off to proceed with annual purchasing.
All procurement motions were approved by recorded votes of 3-0.
Why it matters: The truck purchase replenishes aging equipment the county relies on for road work; the microsurfacing contract is part of the 2025 resurfacing program; the annual contracts allow routine supply purchases for Public Works operations.
Details recorded at the meeting: purchase price $425,880 for two trucks; trucks expected to arrive in December 2025; microsurfacing bid awarded to Vance Brothers (one bid received); annual bid approvals cover roughly 70 vendors in categories 6–22. No contract amendments or alternate vendors were discussed at the meeting.
Next steps: Staff will finalize the Kenworth MOU, place the order, list replaced vehicles for sale on Purple Wave auction and implement the awarded surfacing contract when scheduled.
