Platte County, Park Hill School District agree to fund school resource officers; county to cover portion of costs

The Platte County Commission voted 3-0 on March 17 to approve an agreement with the Park Hill School District to continue placing school resource officers (SROs) in district schools.
Captain Joe Shanks of the Platte County Sheriff’s Office presented the agreement and told commissioners the overall county budget impact is $425,662.08 plus benefits and equipment costs. Under the terms described to the commission, the district will pay 80% of salary and benefits for five deputies, 70% of salary and benefits for one deputy and 50% of equipment costs for the program.
"The school district is gonna pay 80% of the salary and benefits for 5 deputies, 70 percent of the salary and benefits for 1 deputy," Captain Joe Shanks said while presenting the order.
The contract has been reviewed as to form and the auditor certified that funds are available in the 2025 budget, the record shows. Commissioners voiced no objections during the motion and the clerk recorded the vote as carrying 3-0.
The sheriff’s office said the county-budgeted amount and the district cost-share are included in the current budget and that the agreement covers both compensation and equipment costs. Commissioners did not request further changes on the record; staff will proceed with final contract execution.
Ending: County staff indicated the agreement is budgeted for 2025 and will move to implementation now that the commission has approved it.
