Platte County to solicit engineers for $6.8 million Double A Wicomus Drive improvements

Platte County commissioners voted Tuesday to release a request for qualifications for engineering services tied to a $6.8 million grant for improvements to Double A Wicomus Drive.

County Administrator Wes Minder told the commission the grant covers improvements on Double A Wicomus Drive in the Northmore area and that one of the first steps is to solicit design professionals through a request-for-qualifications process. "We will release that request and have consultants propose and then evaluate and select our team that would design the project," Minder said.

The county moved to approve resolution 2025RES033 to solicit professional engineering services; the motion passed 3-0. Staff said the RFQ release is an initial step to select a consultant who would prepare the design for the grant-funded work.

Why it matters: The $6.8 million grant is the primary funding referenced by staff for the project. Selecting a design team begins the formal project-development timeline and is required before engineering, bidding and construction can proceed.

Commissioners did not debate alternative funding or design approaches at length during the meeting. The commission recorded a unanimous vote in favor of releasing the RFQ and moving the project into consultant selection.

Next steps: County staff will issue the request for qualifications, review consultant proposals and bring a recommended firm back to the commission for approval before design begins. No timetable for consultant selection was specified at the meeting.
