Nicollet County approves 2024 budget amendment to cover County Road 15 work

Nicollet County commissioners approved a 2024 budget amendment to account for expenditures on the County Road 15 reconstruction project, Public Works staff said. The project’s total expenditures reported to the board were about $21.3 million, reflecting recent concrete paving and striping work; additional grading remained to be completed.
Public Works Director Seth told the board he sets budgets conservatively because project plans and final costs often continue to evolve during the year; the County Road 15 figures reflect that process and are included in the county’s five-year capital improvement plan. Finance staff reported the county used planned sales tax and wheelage tax revenue and expects to have about $400,000 in sales tax and roughly $40,000 in wheelage tax remaining at the end of 2024 after the project, figures staff said are approximate. Commissioners approved the budget adjustment by voice vote.
Commissioners also asked about the durability of the new concrete surface; staff said the surface appeared to be holding up over the winter and a detailed spring walk-through was planned. Separately, Public Works said the Nicklet (Old Highway 14 turnaround) project has been pushed to next year because of staffing limits and outstanding coordination with property owners in the City of Nicollet.
