County proclaims April 21–25, 2025, as National Volunteer Week and endorses Morrison County Volunteer Network

The Morrison County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a proclamation on March 20 declaring April 21–25, 2025, as National Volunteer Week in Morrison County and expressed support for a new Morrison County Volunteer Network.

Perla Watton, with the Little Falls Area Chamber and Tourism, and Mary Bednarick of the Little Falls Chamber, asked the board to sign a proclamation to highlight volunteerism and to launch an online “one-stop shop” for volunteer opportunities. Watton said the network has been under development for two years and that many local organizations — including nonprofits and health-care providers — depend on volunteers. “For the last 2 years we've been working on it… we wanted to create a 1-stop shop for all of Morrison County,” Watton said, and directed residents to the chamber’s website for the Morrison County Volunteer Network link.

The proclamation text cited the role of volunteers across education, health care, food security, youth development, senior assistance and animal welfare, and urged residents to “seek out ways to contribute their time and talents and support the many organizations that rely on volunteerism to thrive.” Commissioner Casper moved to adopt the proclamation; Commissioner Blaine seconded. The roll call recorded ayes from Commissioners Blaine, Casper, Winter, Moran and Chair Lemire; the motion carried.

Commissioners and presenters discussed how residents can sign up; Watton said opportunities will be listed on www.littlefallsmnchamber.com under the Morrison County Volunteer Network link and that local programs such as Little Falls Community Services will also post opportunities and flyers for youth volunteer pathways.
