New SBDC adviser reports 33 clients in February and ongoing transition

Peter Mott, the Small Business Development Center adviser, provided an overview of February activities at the March 18, 2025 Cook County Grama EDA meeting, reporting 33 clients seen that month and ongoing transition work with outgoing adviser Pat Capanero.
Mott said work falls into three broad categories: start‑ups (roughly half of clients), business management (help with bookkeeping, websites or business practices) and business expansion. He described several clients progressing through multiple meetings and said the center will continue to support businesses that expect to open or expand in Cook County this summer.
Mott also described the handover with Pat Capanero ahead of Capanero’s retirement at month’s end and asked the EDA and local partners to continue referrals. He encouraged commissioners and local organizations to send potential entrepreneurs to the SBDC for assistance with application and funding navigation.
