Senator Curtis Tran of Battlefield handled the bills in the Senate. After a recess for lawmakers to discuss the legislation, senators returned with new language and an amendment offered by Senator Mike Moon of Ash Grove, which was later defeated on the floor.
Senator Brian Williams of University City asked the sponsor to consider withdrawing the amendment so his district could review its potential impact, saying, “The amendment that you're offering will have an impact on my district, and, you know, I haven't had a chance to really work through that. It kinda caught me off guard a little bit. Uh-huh. So I was hoping that you would consider pulling back that amendment and giving us an opportunity to talk about that.” The record shows the Moon amendment was defeated; the bills will next go to a Missouri Senate committee before a final Senate vote.
If the Senate committee approves either measure in committee, the bills could return to the Missouri House of Representatives for final passage or be referred to a conference committee between the two chambers, according to the floor record.
