The Brevard County Board of County Commissioners handled several planning and zoning items April 3. Key outcomes:
• Minutes: The board approved minutes for the Jan. 28 regular meeting and the Feb. 6 zoning meeting. Motion by Commissioner Altman, second by Commissioner Delaney; roll call 5-0.
• H3/H4 (Jay Sarambi LLC): Application 24SS00015 (H3) was withdrawn. The companion zoning request (H4), application 24Z00066 to rezone property on Merritt Island from BU-1/BU-2 to RU-2/30 for residential redevelopment, was approved by the board 5-0. Bruce Moya, with MBB Engineering, said the developer proposes to refurbish an existing 1960s hotel into residential units; Moya noted unanimous support from local planning and zoning.
• H5 (Isabella Zimmerman): The board approved a zoning change from GU to AGR (application 24Z65) to allow an applicant to build a family home and keep a small-scale agricultural use. Applicant Isabella Zimmerman said variances and local approvals are already in place; vote 5-0.
• H6 (Nicholas Duffy): The board approved changing zoning from BU-1 to BU-2 (application 24Z00071) to allow enclosed and outdoor boat and RV storage, with the condition that the existing binding development plan (BDP) remain in place. Commissioner Atkinson moved approval conditioned on retaining the BDP; the motion passed 5-0.
