Resident thanks state officials and committee members for guidance supporting LGBTQ+ students

“I just wanted to express my sincere gratitude to Attorney General Norona and [Commissioner] Heligan Fontaine Green for their recent guidance protecting LGBTQ plus students' rights and supporting diversity initiatives in Rhode Island schools,” Merrill said. She also thanked committee members who indicated they plan to maintain current district policies and collaborate to make East Providence schools welcoming to students of all identities and gender expressions.
Another commenter, Tabitha (a district employee), urged respect and two‑way trust between elected officials and school staff while commenting on the building‑access discussion that followed.
The remarks came during the meeting’s public‑comment period and were not acted upon during the session.
