Conservation commission backs expanded revetment at 14 Westby Road; plans joint meeting with Coastal Resiliency Committee

The New Shoreham Conservation Commission voted a favorable advisory on a Coastal Resources Management Council public notice to expand a stone revetment upslope at 14 Westby Road (the block management transfer station), application number 22409029.
Commissioners described the revetment expansion as a continuation of an earlier project that ran out of funds and said completing the revetment appears necessary to protect the transfer station slope and adjacent coastal features. Several commissioners noted the town had not finished the original project because of funding shortfalls and that additional funding appears to be available now. The proposal includes revegetation with beach grass where appropriate.
Commissioner comments were largely supportive; one commissioner said the revetment work "has to be done" and another observed the work had been done well so far. The commission moved and seconded a favorable advisory for the continuing revetment work and approved it by voice vote.
The commission also discussed a proposed joint meeting with the Coastal Resiliency Committee to be scheduled in late May or early June; staff member Laurel was asked to coordinate a date and keep the commission updated at the March meeting.
Chair Tara McGregor moved the favorable advisory; the motion was seconded and approved by the commission.
