Kings Park honors students and teachers; robotics team wins Long Island regional, heads to FIRST Nationals

The board then recognized dozens of music students accepted to all‑county, all‑Long Island and all‑Eastern ensembles; Mr. Paul Eager and music staff identified students by name and ensemble.
The board also recognized academic and extracurricular achievements: Lauren Hedges was announced as one of the top 300 Regeneron Science Scholars; the high school’s robotics team (Team 5736) won the FIRST Robotics Long Island Regional and earned a spot at the FIRST Robotics national competition in Houston. The superintendent and other board members thanked mentors, boosters and volunteer coaches for their time and support.
Teacher awards: the district named school-level Teachers of the Year and announced Christine Derenberg as the district’s Teacher of the Year advancing to round two of the New York State selection process. Other teachers honored included Doctor Lauren Dunn (Parkview Elementary), Mrs. Erica Mullen (Fort Salonga), Miss Laura Cairns (RJO), and Doctor Rosalia Scaffidi Iannone (Kings Park High School; absent but recognized).
