Student-government representatives from Central Mountain Middle School and Central Mountain High School updated the Keystone Central board on April 3 about student safety, discipline trends and extracurricular activities.
Middle-school student representative Caroline Sedaris told the board the school surveyed bus riders and received 455 responses; about 70% of respondents said they feel safe on the bus. She said staff and student government are analyzing results to identify buses with more concerns and that administration will pursue targeted remedies. Sedaris added that March referrals fell from 320 in 2024 to 256 in 2025 — a 20% decline — and that student government proposed providing teachers with curtains to block visibility through classroom doors after students reported difficulty hiding from view during a recent lockdown drill. Sedaris also noted upcoming Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) dates for ELA, math and 8th-grade science.
Central Mountain High School student Christian Portland reported drama-club activity, including about two dozen students in rehearsal for the spring production of Chicago and five students advancing to All-State Music competitions. He thanked district staff and the board for new drama microphones. Portland said spring sports have begun, SAT administration recently allowed more students to take the exam on-site, and senior projects are concluding as students enter their fourth quarter.
Board members thanked the student representatives.
