Superintendent recognizes athletic director; student representatives and trustees report testing, events and extracurricular achievements

At the Feb. 25 meeting the superintendent recognized Carson High athletic director Tom Reimer after the Nevada Athletic Directors Association named him Athletic Director of the Year for 4A/5A schools.

Superintendent Fielding (as announced at the meeting) said Reimer has worked with student leaders and athletic groups to engage students about the future of the athletic program. Reimer credited coaches, school staff and parents for the success of the district’s athletics programs.

The superintendent also noted district nominees for the Carson City Chamber of Commerce Women of Distinction program: Candi Robles, who serves as the district’s CTE and work-based learning coordinator; Trustee Molly Walt; and President Lupe Ramirez.

Student representatives from Carson High and Pioneer reported school updates. Diana Ancott (student representative) said spring sports — baseball, softball, track, golf and swim — have started, student-body and class officers were elected, and a “Youth Matter Week” (mental-health awareness) is scheduled March 10–14. Caitlin Wynn (Pioneer student representative) reported that juniors at Pioneer completed ACT testing, a week of kindness activities was held, and the speech and debate team earned awards at recent tournaments.

Trustees gave brief school reports: Carson High had 11 skiers qualify for state and NJROTC cadet Anna Shane placed third at a regional air-rifle championship and competed at the national competition in Alabama. Trustee Peterson also highlighted Carson High bowling advancing to a regional championship match in Reno. Trustees reported upcoming reading weeks, PTO events and community fundraisers at elementary and middle schools.

No formal action was taken on these informational reports; trustees and staff used the segment to highlight student achievements and upcoming engagement opportunities for families.
